black knot racquet stringing

Reliable racquet stringing with an optional fast turnaround in and around the Newbury area

Welcome

Welcome to the Black Knot web site providing information on racquet stringing generally and the racquet stringing service offered by me, Trevor Howard.

Unsurprisingly there is more to stringing a racquet than is at first apparent. Using this website I provide information to help you make an informed choice if you wish to experiment with different strings or tensions, detail on the service I offer and some information about the machine I use and why this might matter to you.

The goal when stringing is to achieve a reliable result that would match that achieved by any other competent and conscientious stringer. In order to be able to do this I was trained by Ray Gooden who many in the Newbury area will know well. Ray had a high profile in the racquet stringing world and before moving away from Newbury he ran Racquet & Stringing Solutions and strung racquets for many of the worlds top tennis professionals. I'm also happy to listen to what any other stringer might have to say on the subject - I only stand to gain and I can always politely discard information if I don't agree with it.

I'll string any racquet but have most experince with squash & tennis. As racquetball gains popularity I receive a few of these racquets and even handle the occaisional badminton racquet.

For further details including prices please browse this website using the navigation bar on the top left. If you want to skip the theory but want a guide to what tensions might suit your game then have a look on the "Gauge/Tension Guide" page under the "Technical" section as it works regardless of whether you understand the theory behind it. String and pricing detail is subject to change but the website will be updated accordingly and clients will always be advised prior to any stringing work being started. If you have any queries not catered for on this website please contact me using the information provided in the “Contact” section.

A note for other stringers:  Please feel free to use any of the information I have published here if it helps you guide your clients. I receive sufficient business for my liking and have no desire to poach your clients as I string racquets ontop of a full time job so have limited time available. If you disagree with any of my thoughts or feel any of them could benefit from clarification please let me know - I don't claim to know it all and am happy to learn from others. If you have any other info that might lighten up the whole site I'd also be interested
